woodlawn elementary living wall
In October of 2023 the entire student body at Woodlawn Elementary, grades k-5 participated in my Fiber Living Wall program. Students learned the art of wet felting over the course of 2 to 5 sessions. They learned how to work with wool to create the three dimensional forms of flowers, leaves, rocks and vines made entirely of felted wool. They gained hands on experience with a brand new and tactile art form. They learned about the sustainability and versatility of wool as a fiber and about its history in ancient human civilization. At the end of the program, the students were able to take of their sculptures home with them as a reminder of the project and their personal contribution to it while leaving their other piece behind to be added to Fiber Living Wall.
The Fiber Living Wall is a representation of the strength and beauty of a connected community and a reflection of our incredible living planet, a planet whose health depends on many individual living things all working together in balance.
This program was made possible by Capital Region BOCES and Melody York who helped facilitate and organize the program.
