Main Street studio collab
In September 2023, I was an Artist in Residence at the community art space, Main Street Studio in Ballston Lake, NY. As a part of my residency I had my solo show, “Connective Fibers” in the gallery space on view for the month. During that month, I taught a series of fiber arts workshops including wet felting, needle felting and latch hooking. These workshops were a part of a larger community art initiative put on by Main Street Studio titled “Ewe & Us”. It was a three-week deep dive into fiber arts, highlighting Charlton’s wool producing farmers, local artisan's expertise with fibers and dyes, and an opportunity for all ages and experience levels to contribute to a seasonal community art collaboration. As a part of this event, the studio hosted open studio hours to invite the community in to try their hand at felting and other forms of fiber art I taught during the workshops. The goal of these open hours was to not only connect the community through fiber arts but to culminate in a series of collaborative sculptures featuring fiber art and wood working. The collaboration was modeled in the style of EMMA International Collaboration and Frogwood Artists Collaboration, programs where artists from around the world come together to connect, create and collaborate.
The artworks shown above are the result of the collaboration between myself, woodworker extraordinaire Jason Nemec and Fiber Artist Renee Johnson.
